What is Jobs Partnership Cleveland?
We are pleased to announce that ShoreBank Enterprise Group
has facilitated bringing Jobs Partnership, a faith-based workforce
development model to Cleveland, Ohio! Jobs Partnership is
designed to bring churches and businesses together to mentor,
train, and employ our neediest citizens moving them from dependency
to self-sufficiency as productive citizens of the community
and to true wellness.
Background
Jobs partnership started in Raleigh North Carolina, with
affiliates in 25 other cities; Cleveland is the 26th site.
The faith community takes ownership of the program providing
the training and mentoring component. Businesses provide career
opportunities. In Raleigh, the job retention rate for graduates
is 92 percent (i.e., 92% keep their jobs for at least one year).
Nationally, the Jobs Partnership boasts an 83% job retention
rate among more than 1100 participants.
Mission
Jobs Partnership Cleveland would like to look at this model
to broaden our pool of motivated, dependable employees with
positive attitudes and a strong work ethic. Through this collaboration
the unemployed and the underemployed are linked to quality
jobs while being enmeshed in a supportive network of relationships
that helps them to cope with the challenges of work and family
responsibilities and to successfully retain and advance in
their jobs.
Program
Jobs Partnership Cleveland holds a 12-week training program
that consists of two distinct curriculums designed to equip
and empower class participants in their quest for a meaningful
career opportunity. The classes meet two nights a week for
two hours each night. Each participant is assigned to a mentor
by the pastor. Class involvement includes:
- Written homework assignments
- Interactive instruction
- Small-group discussion
- Ongoing encouragement
